| † Our Purpose |

In order for our church to be all it can be in terms of glorifying God and positively impacting individuals and families for Jesus Christ, our purpose must match God’s purpose for His Church. When we have prayerfully sought God’s purpose for the church we will succeed … for “many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails” [Pr. 19:21].
We believe that this purpose is best summarized by the …
From the Great Commandment we learn that we are to love God supremely and our neighbor as ourselves. This translates to a purpose of worshipping God and caring for each other and those around us. From the Great Commission we learn that we are to make disciples [or followers of Christ] through evangelism and teaching God’s Word.
WORSHIP– in worship we seek to quicken the conscience by the holiness of God; feed the mind with the truth of God; purge the imagination with the beauty of God; open the heart to the love of God; devote the will to the purpose of God. [William Temple]
WARMTH [Caring] – we want to grow as a community of believers who truly love each other as Christ loves us … who love each other in word and deed. We also want to demonstrate Christ’s love for the lost by meeting needs in practical ways.
WITNESS [Evangelism] – we live in a rapidly changing and diverse culture. People “hear” the gospel in many different ways. We want to be active and effective in our witness through church ministries and missions … and we want to train believers to be active in their personal witness for Jesus Christ.
WORD [Teaching] – God’s Word is spiritual food which sustains spiritual life and energizes spiritual growth. We place a high priority on teaching God’s Word to children, youth and adults. Teaching the Bible is a priority in our worship, Sunday School & home fellowship groups. The goal of our teaching is love [1 Tim. 1:5] … a growing love for God that results in an eagerness to obey and serve Him … and a growing love for each other that results in serving and caring for each other. |
